I began my artistic practice at a young age, taking art classes from elementary to high school, and now I'm pursuing a career in it! I was born in Arizona, where I take a lot of inspiration from, and moved to Texas after starting grade school until coming to Chicago for college. Up to this point, I’ve spent my time practicing technical fine arts skills like drawing, painting, and sculpture. As I got older, I started to gain interest in photography and videography.
Being an artist and designer, I strive to inspire creative freedom and outside-of-the-box thinking through my work. I want people who view my work to feel that it resonates with them or that they can resonate with me as an artist without having any personal connection to me. Conveying emotions through personal, handcrafted work is important to me, which is why I conceptualize the meaning behind the majority of my works. I am heavily influenced by abstract and surrealist practices and often use juxtaposition in my work. Music also plays a large role in being my source of inspiration, as does my interest in concepts such as Dream vs. Reality, self-identity, and nostalgia. These are frequently used as guiding points when I begin the creative process.
Aside from the internal concept of my works, I like to experiment with different mediums to bring works to life and use colors in ways that grab attention. A lot of my personal works are mixed media or contain elements of collage, as that is how I show my personality and bring playfulness to my unique practice.
My journey as a graphic designer began when I realized that there was a position where I could combine my skills from each of my personal art practices into one, as well as use the new knowledge to expand in other areas to become a well-rounded artist. Besides my experience with fine art, I have always been interested in the technology side of things. I taught myself how to edit and produce video content, which soon led to the need to learn basic design principles. From there, I've become proficient in digital programs and the Adobe Suite as methods of creation. Graphic Design is a field where I am able to have creative liberty, while also learning and utilizing skills that are beneficial to my alternate practices. Here, I can also make work that is displayed beyond the confines of my own space or on my own screen.
My passion for digital and technology-based art practices has grown as I have become more accustomed to the rise of technology in the art world. I hope to continue exploring alternative methods of digital art-making, like projection, installation, 3D modeling, and programming as well.
